About a year ago, my sister and I decided to purchase our mother the HealthmateForever Impulse Massager (which incidentally is the little brother of the latest 2013 model which is currently our top rated tens unit). My mother has suffered from pain for some time now and we are not sure if the pain is the result of arthritis or a car accident she was in a few years ago. Whatever the case was, we decided that an ems/tens unit may be beneficial for her.
Whilst she was certainly quite surprised by the gift, her not being the most technically gifted person in the world, I think it was a good kind of surprise. So whilst our mother put the kettle on, my sister and I and put the unit together which is straight forward enough and easy to assemble, for it really did not need to be assembled at all. It came with a lithium battery that is rechargeable which is great, since it is difficult for my mother to change batteries in other electronic devices. All she has to do is to plug in the device and she really appreciated that. In fact, it has the capacity to be plugged into a computer via a USB port, but I figured I was pushing my luck with the wall socket charger never mind trying to explain how to charge it via the USB port!
My sister and I came back later in the day when the device had finished charging so we could go over its use with our mother. We turned on the device and the LCD screen lit up which is very easy to see, even without her glasses on. After a moments consideration we walked her through the various options and the actual hooking up of the unit and positioning of the pads. She decided to hook up the device to help her right elbow which she has has problems with for a few years now. Attaching the pads is straightforward enough and we helped put on two pads to the problem area, one either side of the target zone.
Next up we decided to go for the lowest intensity since she was just beginning the process and can always increase it if needed. Otherwise, It was quite straightforward and my mom had the device on for about for about 20 minutes as we sat and chatted. At the end of 20 minutes, my mother indicated that she thought her elbow was a bit better and that she had a little more mobility in it than normal. It was still sore, but not as sore as it usually is and my sister suggested to her that she try a higher level of intensity that next time she tries it as it may take some time to find the right combination of settings for her particular pain. So with that, we left her to experiment with her new unit.
A couple of weeks later, I came to my mother’s house and was greatly surprised to see her in the garden, with my sister, as she has not been in the garden for a couple of years. As I expressed my surprise, she stated that she had been using the HealthmateForever massager daily and she had noticed a difference with it. She still had pain, but it was manageable and allowed her to do things that she wanted to do and had even been considering taking up an evening class if she continued to make improvements.
For this alone I would recommend the HealthmateForever impulse massager Pro, however shortly we will be getting our hands on the latest 2013 model which we hear amazing things about, and whilst you might save $30 or so by purchasing the 2012 model, it may well be worthwhile holding off and going for the latest version.
